On my experience gathering user needs: Most of my mom friends weren't able to get together with me--it's Mother's Day weekend, after all! So I put out a call to my neighbors on Twitter and talked to one of the moms that responded about her long search for the right bag. I also went to story hour at my local library and people-watched on the DC metro to observe child caretakers with their diaper bags in action. I could see a lot of frustration, and it was really helpful to see all the ways people use their diaper bags, especially depending on their varied needs (are they using a stroller or a baby carrier? breastfeeding or bottle-feeding? cloth or disposable diapering? how old is the child?).

In what way might I...
Help babies and their caretakers explore the world, learn, and avoid boredom.
Help caretakers of small children get out of the house more often.
Simplify traveling about town with a baby.
