Crisis! At the end of last week, I realized that my sewing skills were simply not up to the design challenge I had selected: creating a better diaper bag.

Luckily, I have a lot of gaps. So I've decided that my new gap will be:

In what way might I leave a memorable first impression for my writing business?

This means, of course, that I need to repeat a great deal of the initial work. My new list of primary needs:
-The artifact provides my contact information.
-The artifact drives potential clients to my website.
-The artifact is quirky--more memorable than your standard business card.
-The artifact is useful to the recipient.
-The artifact expands my client list.
-The artifact is inexpensive.
-The artifact is easy to carry.

My goal is not to come up with some sort of never-before-seen business card; it has more to do with creating a brand identity. So I'm not creating a physical artifact, so much as making a choice as to how I'm going to be promoting myself and a my writing.

Here are some of the possibilities I came up with:
-A pen, with my website information printed on it, that has a unique lilac ink.
-A stamp with my contact information, which can be used to stamp any handy piece of paper for a potential client.
-A business card that is plantable--a homemade paper card with seeds embedded in the paper. (I have seen instructions on how to make such a thing here.)
-A card featuring one of my writing/book-related doodles.

Unfortunately, I ran out of time this week to do concept testing, as my radical new direction has created total chaos. Please mark me down as appropriate. But I'll be back next week with a prototype of one of these brand-building promo
